Md Wahiduzzaman, PhD

Laboratory In-charge,

Bangladesh Medical Research Council &

Deputy Project Director,

Establishment of Bangamata National Cellular and Molecular

Research Center (BNCMRC), BMRC Bhaban, Mohakhali, Dhaka-1212

Md. Wahiduzzaman completed his PhD degree from the Aichi Medical University School of Medicine, Japan. Earlier, he received his B.Sc (Honors) and MS (Thesis) degree from the Dept. of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. After completing B.Sc. degree, he started his research career as a part of MS degree in the 'Laboratory of Eukaryotic Gene Expression & Function' (EuGEF) of the Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Chittagong. After obtaining the MS degree, he joined as a Research Associate in the same lab. At the end of 2014, he went to Japan and joined in the Dept. of Biochemistry, Aichi Medical University School of Medicine as a Foreign Researcher. From April 2015, he continued his research as a PhD student in the same lab. On March 2, 2019, he received his PhD degree from Aichi Medical University School of Medicine, Japan.

He has a significant contribution to different areas of research in medical science and has been highly recognized by several high impact journals including Nucleic Acids Research, Cell Reports, Cancer Letters, Cancer Science, Journal of cell science, Scientific Reports, Oncology Reports, Cancer Medicine etc.

His research focused on AAV mediated gene targeting (Nucleic Acids Res, 2016), and the development of an alternative and combinatorial therapeutic approach for the chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) (Cancer Letters, 2018). He assessed the efficacy of a novel combinatorial arsenic trioxide (ATO) and cisplatin (CDDP) treatment in human Bcr-Abl positive (Ph+) leukemic cells. Besides, he worked to find out the potential biomarker for early diagnosis of different subtypes of malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) and its therapeutic improvement. He established NF2 knock out normal mesothelial and MPM cell lines and studied the molecular mechanism behind mutant NF2 driven tumorigenesis in MPM (Cancer Science, 2018).

Currently he is working as a Deputy Project Director, Establishment of Bangamata National Cellular and Molecular Research Center (BNCMRC) with a view to establish a world class research center in the field of Cellular and Molecular Biology with special focus to medical science.

Dr. Wahiduzzaman has received many awards in recognition of his significant research contributions including National Science and Technology (NST) fellowship (2012-2013) for pursuing MS thesis, Research & Development (R&D) grant from NST (2013-2014), foreign researcher grants (2014) from Aichi Medical University, Japan, Aikeika scholarship (2015) supporting PhD studentship in Japan, Nittoku foundation scholarship (2018) supporting PhD studentship in Japan.
