Mr. Alamgir Hossain completed his BSc and MS degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from University of Chittagong,Bangladesh. From his deep interest in research, he joined at Laboratory of Eukaryotic Gene Expression and Function (EuGEF) at masters level. He was actively involved in clinical and basic research in the field of cancer biology, particularly in screening cancer patients with demographic data and checking the Sonic Hedgehog (Shh) expression in breast cancer and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) of bangladeshi ethnic region at Laboratory of Eukaryotic Gene Expression and Function (EuGEF lab) under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad Mosaraf Hossain. Since, completion of his Masters (MS) program,  he continued his research in the same field at the EuGEF Research Group as a Research Assistant. Still now, he is conducting the screening project on cancer types across the country and very recently they he is going to publish his screening data. Now he is trying to categorize those cancers based on ethnicity.

Besides, he is working in a microRNA project to characterize the role of miR-424-503 in breast cancer progression and chemo-resistance.

He is also working on a research project entitled “Development of COVID-19 diagnostic kit: A novel point-of-care SARS-CoV-2 antigen detection method”. He is involved in the optimization and preparation for validating this kit as well as for its final development. After the successful completion of this project, an alternative rapid COVID-19 diagnostic methods/kit will hopefully be available which can detect the live virus (not just antibody) potentially giving a reading before the body has created an immune response to the pathogen with the rapid diagnostic result, minimal toxicity as they are yeast cell wall fragments, superior stability as lyophilised reagents at ambient temperature, and which is easy to administer and low cost.
